I read a blog post on http://willrichardson.com/beliefs/ The main focus of this post was that he believed that meaningful change in the education of students must start with, "what we believe about how kids learn and what’s important about education." He believed that the problem with fixing education systems has a lot to do with the approach to the problem. He believes that people are natural learners, but schools no longer need what is considered typical education. He also has a high respect for technology in learning and the student teaching himself. He stated that teachers must redefine their role, and curriculum must be better changed to the needs of students. Ultimately he states that to create change there needs to be a higher degree of commitment to change.
I liked a lot of what he said about the education system and the need for change. I agreed with almost all of his points, but wish there would have been a little more on how to fix those problems. I really liked how he put the focus on redefining what students need and the roles of educators. Learning is a diverse and complex process, so why is education in school normally presented in the same way. I agree with http://willrichardson.com/beliefs/ that commitment to change is just as important as identifying what needs to be changed.
